Ministers has asked councils to do all they can to support street party events in their area.
Communities Ministers Hazel Blears and Local Government Minister John Healey want local councils to be the life and soul of the party by giving a helping hand to anyone wanting to hold a street party linked to the ‘Big Lunch’ event on July 19.
This includes getting involved themselves to making street closures and technical matters as smooth and straightforward as possible.
These statements (24th April) will hopefully help residents to organise their event on the scale they can cope with, without unnnecessary or unwarrented procedures that some councils have, regarding road closures and insurance in particular.
Any residents having difficulties can ask Streets Alive for help.
