Aiming for 2 million having street parties
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on the long weekend of 2-5 June 2012 will be a great excuse to hold a street party following a long tradition which started in 1919.
1 million people had street parties for last year’s royal wedding on that spring date. With a summer jubilee and councils being much better prepared, we are expecting many more street parties, with even up to 2 million taking part.
Residents can start now to plan the event in principle. It is a unique opportunity to meet the neighbours with the kids and adults playing together in a traffic-free street. See our Guide for residents.
If residents don’t want to shut the road off properly they could have a more casual StreetMeet on a pavement, at the end of a cul de sac, driveway or at a park.
We can also help with planning community projects for this national event.
