Funding Success for our Street SwapShop!
Streets Alive has been successful in receiving funding through the Bristol Green Capital Community Challenge Fund.
We will carry out a small trial of the Street SwapShop, or Street Cycle, which will enable neighbours to share their skills, goods or services with each other. This will enable us to develop the SwapShop in streets who have held street parties in the past to work with to trial the project.
Royal Wedding Street Parties
Millions of people enjoyed a day off work for the Royal Wedding on the 29th April. It is estimated, over 1 million people participated in street parties with their friends and neighbours, with over 5,500 official road closures on the day and many more unofficial Street Meets. We visited 3 in Bristol and all were wonderful community affairs, with a great mix of ages and backgrounds coming together in a heart warming show of neighbourliness.
Streets Alive are really proud to be at the forefront of making this happen by helping residents get organised and by encouraging the Government and councils to minimise red tape over the last ten years.
Royal Wedding Street Party Photos
We asked people to upload some of their best photos to Flickr, and we have been amazed by some of the great shots that have really captured this very British tradition. My personal favourite is the Buckingham Palace made from bales of hay, complete with Spitting Image-esque Royal family. Only in Somerset! Add your photos to our Flickr site and see more photos from Bristol here.
