Southampton rolls out the bunting again big time
Southampton is building on its street party successes with a city-wide programme.
In 2009 Southampton City Council encouraged 23 street parties in the city, following advice and training from Streets Alive. In 2010 they are again promoting and supporting residents to hold these very neighbourly events. New arrangements for road closures, insurance and road signs were set up to make it easy for residents.
Streets Alive had provided training to all forms of community workers across the city to encourage the idea in less confident communities.
Having got the bug for street parties, lots more are expected this year in the city.
