Where is the UK capital of street parties? |
|
|
The answer is...Bristol! Residents held 210 street parties in 2010 as a result of Streets Alive's various projects and the support of Bristol City Council. Other hotspots include Oxford, Brighton, Streatham and Richmond in London as well as Southampton. One area in Bristol called Easton has had over 35 street parties, with 19 being held in one year - it is the street party community of the UK. The area is saturated with street parties and residents tell us in surveys that they now feel more positive about their neighbours and the area, and the street parties are repeated most years. Each street party is traffic free, and organised and funded by residents. Streets Alive works with all relevant teams of Bristol City Council to make all this possible. This includes projects in promoting intergenerational play, greener travel and greener living, including using our SwapShop system.
