Where is the UK capital of street parties?

The answer is...Bristol! Residents held 210 street parties in 2010 as a result of Streets Alive's various projects and the support of the City Council. Oxford is close behind with 75 parties and it is a smaller city.

Also, one area in Bristol called Easton has had over 35 street parties, with 19 being held in 2005 – it is the street party community of the UK.

It is a typical urban neighbourhood with terraced houses and with a mixed community which they are quite proud of. Streets Alive encouraged the residents to go for it - and they certainly did.

The idea was to saturate the area with street parties to see what happens to a community. With so many residents in so many streets now feeling more positive about their neighbours and the area, it is hoped that the street parties would be repeated most years.
